band to release 5 song video album

photo by Dawn Stenzel   we're in the studio recording 5 of our songs, including a brand new track: Peacetime Freedom King, which will be released in the coming weeks. Each song will have a video, written/shot/edited by ourselves (motivated by our recent T2i acquisition). The songs are being recorded live off the floor with a little studio trickery as we can get away with.. believing that brutally honest 70's…

Railway Club show Jan 28 2012

our most important show to date..? could it be that what started out as a simple supernova battle of the bands for a chance to play at CMW in march has turned out to be so much more? Seems. Not only is everyone we know coming to see the show.. the place will be jammed, but mega-promoter Bernie Aubin will be there to see if cultureDef will be part of…

WATCH – HOLE iN My SOUL

WATCH Hole in My Soul.. the latest video from cultureDef about redemption from dangerous places. Filmed, directed and edited by Luke Hansen-MacDonald of Trinocular Films, this video is a beautiful and dark visual for cultureDef's brooding track. The band plays the roles of hero and villains with a spectacular performance from Aidan Synn Pringle as the 'brutally honest' punisher, and Julia Fox as angel.

cultureDef sounds "like a cross between Zeppelin/Bowie/NiN" according to Maple Music, but the band says it more like James Bond car-chase soundscores with lyrics about the 3 BIG L's: life, love, & loss – usually in that order. Born out of the bands love for 70's riff-rock and after-hours 'dirty' breakbeats – think Zeppelin @ Shambhala.

cultureDef came together in Oct of 2009 and have released a 6-song EP *Chrysalis (Feb 2010) and a full length album, Tin Tabernacles (May  2011). The bands Youtube channel has over 13,500 views for their music videos which include a music video made in partnership with Kodak for their song Broken (October 2011) and Hole in My Soul (Aug 2011).

Their summer tour took them through BC and Alberta and included playing at Peacefest in Peace River, Alberta, with Biff Naked and Blue Rodeo. Other achievements include placing 2nd in pop videos on Ourstage.com for the music video Chrysalis, touring with Swollen Members through BC, tracks included on several local compilation albums, 16,000+ fans on ReverbNation, 2200+ Facebook friends, and over 400,000 profile views on MySpace.  A Google search of the band’s name will show their growing popularity and success with new fans in the short time that they’ve been together.

The band came together in the wake of the dissolution of Zufo & the White Martians, a sci-fi power punk recording project that produced 40+ songs as a studio project that never performed live and came to an end at the end of 2007. After a year long hiatus, cultureDef was formed and the band began performing actively throughout British Columbia, focusing primarily in Vancouver.

cultureDef has been working with Randy Bachman, who has performed the role as 'song doctor',  producer and mentor, and are published through Bachman's Write Songs – Will Travel. Bachman's work with the band has engrained the 'rules of pop music' into the writing and production formula the band follows.

cultureDef has been working with LiveVision Macro Management, a Vancouver based management company who has taken on the role of the band's PR arm to promote the new album through shows and tours, and grow awareness through their well developed networks. LiveVision is working with Bachman's publishing company to licence cultureDef's music to film, video games, TV shows.

The band's line-up is:

Zufo – lead vocals/guitar
Chris Greenfield – bass
Mike Turner – keys/synth
Dino Pessione – drums
